No one favors uneven or bumpy lawns. It does not look attractive and is also a safety hazard that can cause trips, falls, or sprained ankles. Sometimes people let the yard remain uneven because they think leveling it will cost a lot of money, which is not valid. You only need a perfect gardening tool for this: a lawn leveling rake. Keep on reading this blog to learn what a leveling rake is, why it is essential to level the lawn, when to do it and how to do it. So, let’s start.

What is a lawn leveling rake?
A tool made of stainless steel or galvanized steel that has a wider panel with 3 rods, and their inner sides can be open or closed. It is used by attaching a long rod that comes in a package.
Why is it important to level your lawn?
Your lawn must be leveled and sloped away from your house gradually. It allows rainwater to drain away from your property other than coming towards its base and causing severe damage and costly repairs. That’s how vital lawn leveling is, and a lawn leveler can quickly help with it.
What causes uneven or bumpy lawn?
Several reasons cause uneven, bumpy lawns as listed below.
Animals
When your pets and neighbors’ pets are playing in your yard, or stray animals are finding food are the biggest reasons why your lawn is uneven. Using lawn leveling equipment often will avoid this situation.
Children
When the soil is soft, usually one day after the watering and children play over it, the significant pressure on the surface makes it press the surface in and make it unlevel. If that is the case with you, we suggest using a yard leveling rake together with a lawn aeration tool to avoid (soil compaction, waterlogging) long-term issues to the soil surface.
Waterlogging
In the winter months, motionless water on the yard surface is the biggest reason for creating lumps and humps in the garden. You can solve this problem by using the lawn level and having the proper drainage system.
Soil settlement
Things in and under the soil like stones, pieces of bark, and piping cause unevenness in the soil. Using a soil leveler can help accommodate this problem easily.
When to level your lawn?
For leveling the lawn, soil, sand, or top-dressing is applied. When leveling rake distributes the application material, it vanishes on the lawn surface. However, when you do that, make sure the grass is long enough not to get covered under the sand, soil, or top dressing, or it has the ideal length (5 cm). Grass having the perfect length can be leveled from July to September.
If the lawn area that needs to be leveled has no grass, it must be leveled through the soil, sand, and top dressing from April to July.
In the suggested months, grass will be able to grow healthy and longer while taking moisture from the soil.

What are the other tasks lawn levelers do automatically when leveling the lawn?
When someone is leveling the lawn, there are many other tasks that are done automatically with our versatile lawn leveler. Let’s look at what these are.
Removes debris from the lawn
Debris in the grass does not feel good when you walk barefoot on it, and a heavy amount of it does not make the grass grow healthily. Therefore, our lawn leveling rake has an inner open rod design that collects all debris like stones, tiny sticks, mulching, and pieces of bark.
Also, it breaks up any clods of sand and soil present on the surface of the lawn.
Fills pits
Pits on the lawn can cause serious injuries, some are less deep, and some are more. Filling and removing all pits and irregularities one by one can be very energy and time-consuming. But with our lawn level rake, these irregularities are effortlessly removed when spreading the application.
Distributes the application material
Application material is impossible to spread evenly with any tool other than a lawn leveler. Also, if the lawn-specific area requires leveling via top dressing, you can do that easily while promoting easy planting while simultaneously working into the grass.
Helps you get the perfect mowing results
We all want to achieve a garden that looks like a lush emerald carpet. But it is only possible when you often use lawnlevel in the garden.
A leveled lawn allows robotic lawn mowers to cut the grass evenly and smoothly without tripping and rough cutting. This environment helps the robotic lawn mower stay in optimal condition.

How to use a lawn leveling rake?
Use following steps to level your lawn.
1. Mow the lawn
Start the lawn leveling process by cutting the grass short to two inches. Please do not cut the grass too short that its stems start showing; it can cause the grass to dry out.
2. Dethatch, if needed
Now dig up a piece of grass with its soil. Check if there is a thick thatch layer. Thatch is a spongy layer that contains organic material like living and dead stems and shoots that lie between turf and soil. If it is more than 1,5 cm, it should be removed first.
3. Aerate, if needed
Other than unevenness in the lawn, if your grass is thin, discolored, or stopped growing, it is a big sign that yard soil is compacted and needs aeration. You can use a sharp aerator tool with reliable construction.
*Dethatch and aeration are necessary if you want to grow a healthy lawn after leveling the lawn. If your lawn health is not good and only level it, lawn leveling will not bring good results. You don’t need to use the lawn leveler in any of these two processes.
4. Create mixture of sand, pop soil compost
For beneficial results after lawn leveling, do not just level it with one thing like only soil, sand, or only top dressing. Instead, create a top-dressing mix to fill the uneven areas.
You will fill the down areas with two parts sand, two parts top-soil, and one part compost.
This mixture not only levels the lawn but also contains all nutrients your grass needs to thrive.
5. Dig the sunken part before leveling it with soil mixture
You just do not spread the top-dressing mix and start using a levelawn tool to level the dirt. Instead, if your lawn is 5-8 cm uneven, you need to remove the grass from it. For this, use a shovel to dig up the sod. Stab and slide the shovel blade into the grass and take it up with soil containing its roots. Now fill the irregular place with top dressing mix and put the grass back on.
6. Spread the soil mixture and use lawn leveler
Suppose the lawn areas are not sunken but dried and uneven. We suggest leveling it with lawn leveling equipment as follows.
Spread the top dressing mix in a thin layer on the uneven area and areas around it.
Pick a levelawn rake with the handle and lay it out evenly on the lawn.
Remember, don’t make piles of top-dressing over the lawn because heavy layers can choke the grass. Instead, put top-dressing over the lawn with a shovel in a thin layer, even if you think the specific area needs more application.
Now, spread the top-dressing mix with the lawn leveler by making a back and forth motion.
Then check and apply if there is a need for a second layer. Make sure that you don’t cover the tips/blades of grass under the top-dressing. It can cause suffocation in the grass and eventually die.
7. Run sprinklers
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.Turn on the sprinklers to settle the top-dressing in the soil and fill any air pocket. It sets the soil and revives it by instantly starting nutrients infusion from the compost mix.
8. Apply Soil Mixture, If Needed
After a bit of watering, check if there is still some unevenness present, apply a second layer and repeat steps 6 and 7.

Where can you purchase the best-designed lawn leveling rake?
If you genuinely want to enjoy the lawn leveling process and get the maximum benefits from lawn leveling, lawn leveling equipment should be of high quality.
If it is of high quality, it reduces the difficulty you can face during lawn leveling. Its wider panel and sharp rods are ideal for evenly spreading screened top-soil in a broader area. It avoids thick layer formation of soil in a specific area. It leads to a thick and lush lawn.
Levelawn rake with a long and firm handle at shaft mount and does not have any joint is the best. We provide a reliable lawn leveler with the same feature. Because of this, the handle rod does get loose when doing back and forth motion with the lawn leveler. Also, you can do distribution of top dressing on a large area while standing at a place and without moving much.

HOW TO GET AN UNEVEN LAWN EVEN?
Even out minor bumps with top dressing, and use the leveling rake. Remember not to add more than 2 cm of top dressing. Otherwise, the grass can not grow through.
You can level the ground throughout the growing season. Remember to keep the soil moist if you need overseed with new grass.
